Special IP Court Circuit Launched in the UAE Under Federal Courts

Imran K. (Mar 23, 2016)

The Minister of Justice at the United Arab Emirates issued the Ministerial Resolution No. 137 for 2016 which stipulates that the UAE will be setting-up dedicated courts to handle Intellectual Property Rights disputes and small claims.

The UAE set up this strategy to reflect the UAE’s interest in protecting Intellectual Property Rights and making effective decisions on disputes related to Intellectual Property Rights.

On this regard, the Judicial Inspection Department will provide specialized training to judges to help them understand the procedures and technicalities associated with Intellectual Property Rights cases.

An Intellectual Property Court Circuit has already been set up at the Federal Court of First Instance in Abu Dhabi, and the next move will be establishing Court Circuits across the country.
